Drink now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant before serving. Glenelly’s modern history dates back to 2003 when the property was purchased by legendary French winemaker May de Lencquesaing who owned Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Bordeaux for over 30 years. Despite being 78 years old, May quickly set about turning this Stellenbosch farm into a world-class winery with a reputation for producing excellent value Bordeaux-style blends that punch high above their price tag. The Lady May cuvee is named after May de Lencquesaing herself, and is an homage to her vision and inspirational leadership. The dominant component in the blend is Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch along with some Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot for extra complexity and style. Each variety is vinified separately and aged on the lees for a significant period before being transferred to new French oak barrels for 24 months of ageing. Sure to please lovers of big, bold reds, this handsome bottling is bursting with ripe cassis, blackberry and dark cherry flavours which linger on the tongue long after the first sip. On the palate there’s a rich, brooding character with a generous full body, firm tannins, and layers and layers of luscious dark fruit, spice, and dried herbs. A great partner for game, hearty beef dishes, or charcuterie.
